Marc Prensky and Dr. Mark Bauerlein will debate technology and its impact on social relationships for the convocation program at 10:30 a.m. at Augustana College’s Centennial Hall.  Questions will also be taken from the audience.  For more information, call 309-794-7494.

This week’s Thursdays at the Figge program will feature fall studio preview art demonstrations with Heidi Hernandez, Andi Naab, and Donna Young from 5 to 7 p.m. Also featured will be music by Tony Hoeppner and new dinner specials at the cafĂ©.  For more information, call 563-326-7804.

A tour of the Corps of Engineers Clock Tower will be given for the Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society meeting.  The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the pavilion near the Colonel Davenport House, with the tour at 6:30 p.m.  To make a reservation or for more information, call 563-355-6165.

The Rock Island Library will show the independent film A Screaming Man at 6 p.m. followed by a brief discussion. The film is unrated and may not be suitable for children.  For more information, call 309-732-7323.

The Dani Lynn Howe Band will play at 7 p.m. at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island. A dance lesson will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 309-732-7275.

Beginning tomorrow and continuing thru Sept. 30, an exhibit of paintings by Jennifer Bock-Nelson, will be on display in Monmouth college’s Len G. Everett Gallery.  A reception for Bock-Nelson will be held on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gallery, with the artist speaking at 3:15 p.m. The exhibit, talk and reception are all open to the public.

The 2nd annual Great Rock River Sweep will be held on Saturday, September 10 with an open invitation for all to participate.  For details about how, when, and where to volunteer, please go to www.rockriversweep.org.

Timber Lake Playhouse will cap off its 50th Anniversary season with the latest installment of a wildly popular Late Nite Catechism series.  Til’ Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3 will run until September 4.  For tickets or more information, call 815-244-2035.
