Today and Thursday morning, the Channel Cat Talk River Folk Tales and Music will begin at 9 a.m. at the Celebration Belle Landing in Moline. Pre-registration is required; call 563-322-2969.

Eric Schmechel with the Dubuque Soil and Water Conservation District will speak on Turning Policy into Practice: Dubuque County and City of Dubuque Low Impact Development Policies at noon at the Bettendorf Surrey Heights Fire Station, 5002 Crow Creek Rd.  Lunch will be available for a donation. Carl Sandburg College will host an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. at the new Learning Center located at Sandburg Mall in Galesburg.  The open house will include tours, refreshments, and a meet and greet with instructors.

On Thursday, a reception for Contemporary Works on and With Paper will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Salon in the Figge Art Museum. For more information, call 563-326-7804, ext. 2026.

As part of Thursdays at the Figge, Lynn Gingras-Taylor will facilitate a workshop A Chair for Your Shelf at 6 p.m. where participants will construct a mini-chair. For more information, call 563-326-7804.

Next Saturday and Sunday, the Clay and Fiber Fest will be held in Bishop Hill featuring pottery workshops, spinning, weaving, broom-making, and other hands-on activities.  For more information, call 309-927-3008.

Next Saturday, New Ground Theatre will host readings of one-act plays Bad Habits, Malnati Mondays, and The Long Journey to Our Shortcomings at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Theatre in Davenport.  The audience can vote for the plays they feel should be produced.
