Saturday, August 13

Volunteers are still needed for heavy-duty cleanup and invasive plant removal in Davenport, Milan and Rock Island from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  No previous cleanup experience is necessary and supplies will be provided. A parent or guardian must accompany volunteers under the age of 18. Those interested should register online at www.xstreamcleanup.org.

The Art of Percussion family workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Figge Art Museum and River Music Experience. Make percussion instruments from recycled materials at the Figge, where Native American storyteller and musician Larry Lockwood will perform. Then, make a musical procession to the River Music Experience, where musicians Terry Hanson and Ellis Kell will hold a drum circle. For information, call 563-326-7804, ext. 2045.

Park View Lutheran Church in Park View Iowa will hold their 15th Annual Music on the Lawn festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Bring the lawn chairs or blanket to enjoy food, children’s activities and live bands.

An opening ceremony for Iowa Fallen Soldiers will be held at the Davenport Main Street Library at 6:30 p.m.  The exhibit, honoring service personel who died in war zones since September 11, 2001, will be on display through August 23.  For more information, call 563-326-7837.
