At 1 p.m. at Apple River Fort State Historic Site in Elizabeth, Illinois, a militia muster for the 1832 Black Hawk War will be re-enacted and visitors are encouraged to take part.  Men at least 18 years of age may train with re-enactors from the New Salem Militia Company, while kids and women may volunteer for various support duties.  The event is free and open to the public and will feature authentic uniforms, equipment and more. The Bettendorf Library will show the film Bread and Roses at 1:30 p.m. as part of St. Ambrose University's The Ubiquity of Work series. For more information, call 563-344-4175.

A community appreciation event for the Rock Island Rocks boys' basketball team, parents, and volunteers will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at 572 Supper Club in Rock Island to celebrate the team’s Illinois Class 3A State Championship.

A faculty recital will be held at 8:00 p.m. in Wallenberg Hall in the Denkmann memorial building of Augustana College, featuring Janet Stodd on flute; Mary Neil on piano; Tony Oliver on Marimba; and Susan Schwaegler on clarinet, performing works by John La Montaine, Joaquin Rodrigo, Alec Wilder, and Daniel Dorff.

The sixth annual Pelican Watch will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley. Corps of Engineers park rangers will provide spotting scopes and answer questions about the migrating birds. For more information, call 309-794-5338.

A special Muscatine Mosaic Project School Reception will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Muscatine Art Center in the Stanley Gallery.  The reception is open to the public, giving attendees an opportunity to enjoy the Mosaic Project canvases created by students in the Muscatine School System.  The reception is hosted by Friends of the Muscatine Art Center.

Political economist Raj Patel will present the annual Donald B. McMullen Memorial Lecture in Biology at Monmouth College at 11 a.m. in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. Entitled How to Feed Africa and America, the lecture is free and open to the public.
