Saturday, March 5

The annual Pen in Hand Writing Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Midwest Writing Center in Davenport featuring four workshops. There also will be free workshops on slam poetry and middle school poetry. For more information, call 563-324-1410.

A voice recital by M. Andrew Jones will begin at 5 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport.

This year’s Big Read kicks off with a 7 p.m. performance at The Orpheum Theatre featuring David Keltz as Edgar Allan Poe. Attendees will receive a free copy of The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Plog, Williams, Daugherty, and Holst as part of their Masterworks V concert.  The concert will be held at 8 p.m. at the Adler Theatre in Davenport on Saturday, and at 2 p.m. in Augustana College’s Centennial Hall on Sunday. Concert Conversations with Kai Swanson will begin an hour
