The book Ellington was Not a Street by Ntozake Shange will be read at 4 p.m. at the 30/31 Branch of the Rock Island Library followed by making a craft project. For more information, call 309-732-7323.

The 2010 film Octubre will be shown as part of the Hispanic Film Festival at 7 p.m. in Olin Auditorium of Augustana College. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. For more information, call 309-794-7323.

A discussion of Mary Alice Monroe's novel Time is a River with the Between the Lines Book Discussion Group will be held at the Davenport Eastern Ave. Library at 7 p.m. For information, call 563-326-7832.

Tomorrow morning, the annual Penny Parade will take place at the Carl Sandburg Historic Site at 313 E. Third Street in Galesburg at 11 a.m. Inspired by an essay Sandburg wrote in 1909 about the newly-introduced Lincoln penny, area school children collect and donate coins to fund improvements at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site.
Participants will enjoy a short lesson about Sandburg, a reading of a couple of his poems, and old American songs. For more information, call 309-927-3345.

Beginning Friday, the musical The Spitfire Grill will be performed at North Scott High School auditorium in Eldridge. Performances are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 563-285-3324.
