The Knox College Computer Science Department will presents its 9th Annual Sumo Robot Competition, at 4 p.m. in Umbeck Science-Mathematics Center in Galesburg.

The Bi-State Literacy Council will host the annual Winter Blast for Literacy: A Novel Evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at Stoney Creek Inn in Moline. There will be a food, raffles, auctions, and a magic show. For more information, call 309-799-3155, ext. 3150.

The feature length documentary Brent Houzenga: Hybrid Pioneer, chronicling the life, art and creative process of the Des Moines visual artist and musician, will be screening at Bucktown Center of the Arts at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Final Friday festivities will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport, featuring a slam poetry showcase at the Midwest Writing Center, a painting demonstration, music, chili cook-off, and exhibits. For more information, call 309-230-1594.

Tomorrow, the Clinton Symphony Orchestra's annual Young Artist concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Morrison High School Auditorium.  Heather Elfline, a Morrison High School sophomore flutist, will be the featured soloist.
The orchestra will also perform works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Aram Khachaturian and Brahms.  Tickets will be available at the door.


Saturday, February 26

Gretchen Small will conduct a Pbs Kids Go Writing Contest Workshop for grades K through 3 at 10 a.m. at the Moline Library.  The workshop is for entrants in the PBS Kids Go Writing Contest, but participants are not required to enter. A live broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's Iphigenie En Tauride by Christoph Willibald Gluck will be shown at noon at Rave Motion Pictures 53 in Davenport.

The Davenport Community School District Legislative Advocacy Committee is sponsoring an Education Conversation at noon in the West High School Library.

A Welsh and Cornish cultural celebration will begin with a concert by The Edison Folk Dance Band and students from area schools at 2:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church in Rock Island. Two music events will be held on Feb. 27 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Monmouth College’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. Both events are free and open to the public.
The Monmouth Winds will present their annual winter concert at 2 p.m.  Then at 6 p.m., the Western Illinois University Gospel Choir and Monmouth College’s Colorful Voices of Praise will present a Gospel Music Extravaganza.

Community Care, Inc. presents CCI Night at the DeWitt Opera House Theater featuring a screening of the film Justin Bieber – Never Say Never and the Works of Heart Art Show. John Gruber-Miller, professor of classics at Cornell College, will deliver Monmouth College’s 27th annual Bernice L. Fox Classics Lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the Wells Theater.  He will discuss his research into the works of the second century Roman travel writer Pausanias who remains an important source for the art and architecture of Ancient Greece.
