Four area libraries are working together to offer Community Shred Days as part of Money Smart Week Quad Cities.  The free collection will be provided by Document Destruction and Recycling Services of Davenport, who will be onsite at the following times and locations: April 2, Davenport Fairmount St. Library, Moline Library, from 9 to 11 a.m.  April 6, Davenport Eastern Ave. Library from 3 to 5:30 p.m.  April 9, Rock Island 30/31st Branch, Bettendorf Library, from 9 to 11 a.m.  Call the participating libraries for further details.

Women Growing in Positions of Leadership will be the topic for the next meeting of the Rock Island and Moline branch of the American Association of University Women at 9:30 a.m., at the Butterworth Center in Moline. Kim Findlay, director of the Putnam Museum, will be the guest speaker.

Maquoketa Art Experience is hosting a Create-a-Painting Workshop led by artist and writer Sandra Principe beginning at noon at the Maquoketa Art Experience studio located at 124 S. Main Street in Maquoketa.

Building Bridges to the Past, a free family event at the Figge Art Museum, will begin at 1 p.m.  Augustana College students will lead a variety of activities in the studios and galleries. Works by Swedish watercolor artist Johan Thunberg and Augustana’s Prairie artist George Olsen will open the Bishop Hill season in a special showing at the Vagnhall Gallery of the Bishop Hill Heritage Association. The exhibit will run through 1 May.  For more information, call 309-927-3008.

Colona fire Deparment is holding a pancake breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to noon at the Colona fire station.  Proceeds will go for the purchase of CPR training equipment.

The Quad City Coin Club's annual spring coin show will be held at the Milan Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is free and club members will be available to answer questions.

The Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island will host a Pirate Picnic at 1 p.m. featuring a treasure hunt, face-painting, crafts, games, and more.  For more information, call 309-794-0991, ext. 30.

The Iowa Blues Challenge Final Round will be held at 5:00 p.m. at The Muddy Waters in Bettendorf.  The winner will represent Iowa at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in February, 2012.  Three bands from the Quad Cities and one from the Ames area will be competing.

The River Music Experience is offering its Sound Lab Audio Engineering 102 class during the 2nd quarter of 2011.  The program consists of three 8-week in-depth courses.  For more information, call 563-326-133 ext. 113.

Monday, April 4

Japanese American Internment in World War II: Let it Not Happen Again will be held at the Rogalski Center of St. Ambrose University beginning at 5 p.m.  An exhibit will open an hour before the program.  Bill Yoshino will examine the Japanese American internment as a unique historic event. Bob Nakamaru, will talk about the experiences of his parents and grandparents in internment camps. For more information, call 309-793-1300.

As part of Monmouth College Cultural Awareness Week, the documentary 9500 Liberty covering America’s explosive battle over immigration, will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Finley Lecture Hall on the first floor of the Haldeman-Thiessen Science Center. It will be followed by a Q&A session led by Dianna Ruggiero.

Virgil Richardson will present Update on New TV Technology at 7 p.m. at a meeting of the Quad-Cities Computer Society at the Butterworth Center in Moline. For more information, call 563-265-1728.

Tomorrow, two rarely heard works of 20th century music, Quartet for the End of Time by Olivier Messiaen and Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg, will be performed by the chamber music group Nonsemble 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts of Knox College in Galesburg. The concert is free and open to the public.

Opening Friday, the Prenzie Players will present Romeo and Juliet at the Center for Living Arts in Rock Island at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a post-show discussion with the cast and crew on opening night. For more information, call 309-278-8426.
