Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church will begin the 33rd annual 3-mile Community Cross Walk at 8:55 a.m. at Rock Island City Hall and end at the church at 4200 12th St. about 11 a.m.  For more information, call 309-788-8986.

The Midwest Writing Center in Davenport will host a Slam Poetry competition. An open mic for readers but not competitors starts at 6 p.m. The slam starts at 7 p.m. Competitors should bring three original poems and arrive by 6:45 p.m. For more information, call 563-324-1410.

Salley Mavor returns to the Muscatine Art Center with her newest illustrations for her book, Pocketful of Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes, an exhibition of Mavor's fabric relief artwork opening today.  In conjunction with the exhibition, Mavor will present a workshop in the studio of the Muscatine Art Center Saturday, May 21 at 10:00.  For more information, call 563-263-8282.

Beginning Friday, the drama Our Town by Thornton Wilder will be presented in Potter Theatre in the Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts of Augustana College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
