Newsroom Honored for Excellence

Over the weekend, the Iowa Broadcast News Association handed out its awards for excellence in 2010, and the WVIK newsroom brought home one certificate and two plaques.

The certificate, for second place in "Feature" category in the Large Market Radio division, was won by morning news editor Michelle O'Neill for a story on the "Deere Art Collection."

O'Neill also won a first place plaque for "Best Use of Actuality" (sound) for her feature about a guitar class at the Thurgood Marshall Learning Center in Rock Island.

WVIK news director, Herb Trix, won first place for his "Feature" about the online music site Daytrotter, based in Rock Island.

Invaluable production help was provided by Operations Manager, Dave Garner.
