Rock Island National Cemetery is seeking volunteers to help with flag placement for the annual Memorial Day event at the cemetery.  Volunteers who wish to help in the effort should arrive at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m. today. Cemetery officials will provide instructions.

The 41st annual Colona Memorial Day Festival will run thru Sunday on the Hennepin Canal State Parkway. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday; noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. It will include music, games, and more. Thursday’s featured band is To Whom it May Concern who will play an all-ages show begin at 7 p.m.  On Sunday, there will be a parade starting at 2 p.m.  For more information, call 309-235-8276.

Dr. Art Pitz will present The Arab-Israeli Conflict: Prospects for Peace: Is There Any Hope? at 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Library.  For more information, call 309-793-1300.

Out Loud, an open poetry and prose reading session, will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Midwest Writing Center in Davenport. Participants are invited to read their best works. Listeners also are welcome.  For more information, call 563-324-1410.
