The afternoon Contemporary Books Discussion Group will discuss The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester at 1 p.m. at the Bettendorf Library. For more information, call 563-344-4179.

The Figge Feeds Haiti volunteer event will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. Volunteers can sign up for shifts of 15, 30, or 60 minutes to package meals to be sent to Haiti. The new Cultural Counselor to the Swedish Embassy in Washington, D.C., Ms. Eva Bergquist, will make her first visit to Augustana College to attend the commencement weekend dinner celebrating the 100th anniversary of The American-Scandinavian Foundation, on Friday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the College Center Loft. Fair Housing Laws and Employment Opportunities in the Building Trades will be presented in a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Rock Island. David Levin will talk about fair housing and Rory Washburn will discuss building trades apprenticeship opportunities. Human Rights Commission members will answer questions about addressing human and civil rights matters.

Dr. Art Pitz will present The Arab-Israeli Conflict: Christians in Israel and the Arab World: Do They Have a Future? at 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Library.  For more information, call 309-793-1300.
