Today and tomorrow, the annual Milan Indian Summer Festival will be held at Dickson Park featuring a carnival, pageants, bingo and more. Live music will begin each night at 8 p.m. The parade is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today.

Monmouth College’s 16th Annual Cultural Festival will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the college’s Dunlap Terrace. The festival will feature free food, exhibits from around the world, and entertainment provided by the Mexican Folkloric Dance. In the event of rain, the festival will be moved inside the Stockdale Center.

The Labor Day Pow Wow will be held at Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island. Dancing and drumming will go on from noon to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 309-788-0177.

The 16th anniversary of Run with Carl will beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Life Fitness Center in Bettendorf. Participants have the option of signing up for a 5K run/walk or 5 mile run. Simon Cordery, author of the new biography Mother Jones: Raising Cain and Consciousness, will present Monmouth College’s third annual Labor Day lecture at 7 p.m. in the Barnes Electronic Classroom on the lower level of Hewes Library. The lecture is entitled Mother Jones: Labor’s Conscience and the Workers’ Champion.

Award-winning journalist Bill Knight will present the Eighth Annual John Hallwas Liberal Arts Lecture at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the University Union Grand Ballroom at WIU Macomb and at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Room 102-AB at WIU Quad Cities. The lecture is entitled I Read the News Today – Oh, Boy: Journalism, Empathy and the Liberal Arts.
