Rivermont Collegiate in Bettendorf presents a Young Scholars program the first Thursday of every month for children aged 2 to 4, beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m. The program is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Cindy Murray at 563-359-1366 ext. 302.

The Friends of the Rock Island Public Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the 30/31 branch. Proceeds will benefit library programs. For information, call 309-732-7323.

KidTV will meet every Thursday at 4:00 p.m., January through May, at the Davenport Fairmount St. Library. Kids will learn how to write, film, and have fun creating news. shows that will appear on various media outlets. The program is free and registration is not required. On the first Thursday of each month, the Rock Island Library shows an independent movie at 6 p.m. Tonight, the 2009 film Bomber will be screened. The movie, popcorn and discussion are free and open to the public, but the films are not rated, so some content may not be suitable for all audiences. For more information, call 309-732-7323.

Today marks the 200th birthday of Reverend Owen Lovejoy, the abolitionist preacher whose home is now a museum in Princeton, Illinois. A celebration will be held at the Princeton Elks Lodge beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and free. For more information, please contact Kim Frey at 815-875-2616.

Tomorrow thru Sunday, Bald Eagle Days will be held at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island. Attractions will include birds of prey, wolves, and exotic animals, plus tours to see eagles feeding on the Mississippi River. For more information, call 309-794-5338.

What the Fest II, a two day music festival, will begin on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Performance Hall of River Music Experience in Davenport with performances by over twenty bands. For more information, call 563-326-1333.

Tomorrow, a reception for the painting exhibition On/Out, Apart by Mark Hansen will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quad City Arts Center Gallery in Rock Island. For more information, call 309-793-1213, ext. 109.

Tomorrow, the Illowa Community Folk Dance and Twelfth Night celebration will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Singing Bird Nature Center in- Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island. On Saturday, Rave Motion Pictures 53 in Davenport will host a live broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's La Fanciulla del West by Giacomo Puccini at noon.

On Saturday, the Prenzie Players will hold their fifth annual Twelfth Night Gala at 7 p.m. at Rivermont Collegiate in Bettendorf featuring an evening of enacted play scenes and poetry, live music, and more.
